Affections

The Beta-Beta Residency took place in 2016, at the Cairngorms park. After a few days observing and exploring my surroundings,

I started looking at bare trees, mostly damaged ones, as if they were structures, bodies and bones, that needed care.

I then decided to use chita fabrics, mostly because of their very flowery and colourful patterns, to mend the trees. I wanted to give them something that they couldn't have. I developed a personal relationship with these trees. They somehow incarnated feelings that I have towards people.

I understand that my feelings toward these trees were displaced, unusual and very personal. I also comprehend that as I was unable to give them what they were lacking, as flowers and leaves, I used the representation of a fake, constructed and repetitive nature through the chita fabric patterns. I somehow created a strange healing ritual.
